BCHS’s Edwards places second in weight class at finals

MORROW — Brantley County’s Aurora Edwards came within a win of becoming the first Lady Heron state wrestling champion here Saturday at The Arena at Southlake all-classification state finals.

The state and nationally ranked Edwards wrestled in the 170-lb. weight division where she pinned her way to the finals before suffering a pin loss to Creekview’s Ariel Maicon.

Edwards began the tournament with a pin at the 1:08 mark against Newton’s Chelsey Hunter. In the quarterfinals, Edwards pinned Gainesville’s Itel Salcido at 1:21.

Edwards followed with a pin (2:00) of Carrollton’s Madison Conley in the semifinals.

Maicon grabbed an Meanwhile, Maicon advanced through the bracket recording two pin victories and a 13-6 decision. Maicon grabbed an early 3-0 advantage with a takedown before winning the match with a pin (43 seconds).
