Heron netters 4-0 for season

Brantley County’s defending Class 1A DI champion Herons picked up right where they left off last spring recording four wins over the first two weeks of the season.

Head coach Patrick Stieve’s club, minus three starters and over 180 combined victories, have beaten two 6A schools, a 5A and a 4A to start the season.

The Herons opened the season slipping past Class 6A Camden County 3-2 Tuesday, February 3 in Kingsland. They followed with a 4-1 victory over visiting Class 5A Coffee Thursday, February 5.

Brantley County blanked visiting Class 4A Ware County 5-0 Tuesday, February 10. BCHS downed Colquitt County 4-1 Thursday, February 12 in Moultrie.

KINGSLAND — A sweep of the doubles action and a lone singles win lifted BCHS past the Wildcats.

Jeff Florey provided the singles win at the No. 3 spot beating Devarsh Patel 8-5. Ashton Tyler was doubled up 8-4 by Domnic Rossi at No. 1 with Miles Florey suffering an 8-0 loss at No. 2 to Cannon Neathercott.

The Herons’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Owen Spradley and Evan Payne turned back Will Chastain and Gavin Strait 8-5. The No. 2 duo of Yog Patel and Owen Wildes outlasted Trustin Turner and Zachary Smith 8-6.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County sealed the victory with three wins at singles and a split of the doubles matches.

Tyler survived a third-set, 10-point tiebreaker at No. 1 turning back Finn Doherty 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-7. Jayce Chapman posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Eilias Goodwill. Jett Florey also won in straight sets posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hunter Taft at No. 3.

Spradley and Payne fell in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles losing 3-6, 64, 10-4 to Mack Lott and Shade Wke. Miles Florey and Wildes knocked off Adyn Vaughn and Abraham Hernandez 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.

CANEY BAY — The Herons posted five straight set victories in beating Ware County.

Tyler was a 6-3, 6-2 victor at No. 1 singles. Spradley notched a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2 while Jayce Chapman rolled 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.

Jett and Miles Florey teamed up at No. 1 doubles to win 6-1, 6-0. Payne and Patel were victorious at No. 2 winning 6-1, 63.

MOULTRIE — BCHS knocked off Colquitt County sweeping the singles action and splitting the doubles matches.

Tyler survived at No. 1 beating Jack Taunton 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2). Spradley knocked off Bailee Fountain 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 with Chapman posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Jack Kicksey.

The Floreys (Jett and Miles) notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Joshua Scriggins and Harrison Lampman with the No. 2 team of Alex Keen and Wildes falling 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 to Parker Anderson and Issac Hart.
