BEARVILLE — Four Pierce County student-athletes signed national letters of intent Wednesday afternoon on National Signing Day.
Drake Dowling signed with the rodeo program at South Georgia State College in Douglas; Braxton Mc-Cook inked with Thomas University in Thomasville for football; Emmett Hall signed for baseball with Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville; and Johnny Stone inked a baseball with Middle Georgia State University in Cochran.
Friends, teammates and family members gathered in the PCHS auditorium Wednesday afternoon, February 4 for the event.
Head baseball coach Andrew Evans and head football coach Ryan Herring took turns speaking about the players’ journeys to their signing.
“Days like today, from my standpoint,” Evans said, “are a little bittersweet, because you’re celebrating a player’s accolades, you’re celebrating what they’ve become, you’re celebrating where they’re going, and you’re celebrating the opportunities they’ve gotten. But when you’ve been around them every day, what ends up happening is you build a very tight bond with them. And days like today mean those days are numbered.” Evans went on to speak about his relationship with Hall and Stone, praising their character strengths.
Herring spoke next, similarly addressing Mc-Cook and Dowling’s journey’s and strengths.
“We are very proud of all of them,” PCHS principal Kelly Murray added. “It’s a lot of years of hard work and dedication. We’re proud of them for working towards a goal and reaching it.”
