BAXLEY — Pierce County’s junior varsity teams split here Friday with Appling County.
The Lady Bears dropped a 42-39 decision over the Lady Pirates in the February 6 opener. The Bears used a secondhalf rally to win 46-38 over the Pirates.

Pierce County trailed 39-27 entering the final period. The Lady Bears outscored Appling County 12-3 to make things interesting.
The Lady Pirates doubled up PCHS 14-7 in the opening stanza. Pierce County cut three points off the deficit by intermission outscoring the home team 10-7 in the second quarter to trail 21-17 at the break.
Appling County stretched the margin back to double-digits by the third period horn outscoring the Lady Bears 18-10 to push the margin to 3927.
Kamil Strickland led Pierce County with 11 points. Jesslyn Moore and Patience Smith each netted eight points.
Jose’ziah James bucketed six points. Aubree Wilkins chipped in four points with Azalea Mobley contributed two points.
Bears.....................46 Pirates...................38 The Bears used a second- half scoring surge to rally from a three-point halftime deficit to beat Appling County.
PCHS held a threepoint lead when the first period ended at 9-6. The Pirates followed with a 159 scoring advantage in the second stanza to take a 2118 advantage to the locker room.
The Bears outpointed Appling County 12-5 in the third period in taking a 30-26 lead. The scoring pace quickened in the final quarter with PCHS outscoring the Pirates 16-12.
Pierce County received 11 points from Miles Pitts and 10 points from Will Higginson. Maverick Pitts (two treys) and D.J. Moody bagged nine points each. Dawson Brady (trey) tallied five points with Ja’Shun Faison adding two points.
