NAHUNTA — Brantley County High has joined a list of over 100 programs making coaching changes around the state.
David Shores is stepping away from the Herons’ top job after two seasons and a 2-18 mark. BCHS finished the 2025 campaign 0-10.
The veteran coach was hired in 2024 to replace Geoff Cannon, who led the Herons for six seasons compiling a 21-41 record and three post-season berths (2019-21).
The announcement of Shores leaving came last Friday from the Brantley County Board of Education. The next BCHS football coach will be the 16th in the 57 years of the program.
The Herons have not had a winning season since going 6-4 in 2015 and 2016 under Mark Walker. Sean Pender had three such seasons (2004, 2005, 2009) and a 7-5 campaign (2006) leading BCHS to its only state playoff win (21-6 over Jefferson County).
Brantley County has recorded four .500 seasons (5-5), six seasons with six wins and one with seven since 2000.
