DALTON — Aurora Edwards will represent Brantley County at the Class A state Traditional tournament after winning the 170-lb. weight class here Friday at Coahulla Creek High School in the Girls Section A event. Edwards followed up a dominating performance at the February 3 Area 1 Sectional A Traditional tournament held at Houston County with another in the February 6 event featuring grapplers representing 44 schools. She heads to the twoday state tournament Wednesday, February 11 and Thursday, February 12 at the Clayton County Convocation Center in Morrow.
Edwards secured her quarterfinal victory in 38 seconds over Vivian Odhiambo of Osborne. She followed with a pin at the 3:12 mark in the semifinals over Lesly Tercero of Colquitt County.

In the championship match, Edwards recorded the title victory at the 1:11 mark pinning Southeast Whitfield’s Terra Burse.
Edwards recorded a perfect 4-0 mark winning each Area 1 Sectional matches via pin with a total mat time of 5:18 (1:19 per match). She captured her first matchup at 3:03, the quarterfinal matchup in 54 seconds, the semifinal pairing 1:01 seconds and the championship match at 1:26 over a two-time defending state champion.
Edwards was one of six Lady Herons who participated in the Tuesday, February 3 Area 1 Sectional event against representatives from 29 schools and the only one to advance. Only the top four finishers in each weight class garnered berths to the Girls Section A tourney, one of four sections held across the state.
BCHS placed 13th in the field at Houston County.
Camden County, the state champion in one of two Dual finals in January, won the Area 1 title with 182.5 points edging out runner-up Long County (158.5). The Lady Blue Tide were followed in the Top 10 by Colquitt County (131), Richmond Hill (130), Lee County (129.5), host Houston County (119), Thomas County Central (89), Veterans (81), Tift County (80) and Northside (78).
Finishing 11-20 were Jenkins of Savannah (70), Warner Robins (62), Brantley County (58), South Effingham (57), Ware County (54.5), Perry (50), Vidalia (48), Bryan County (34), Coffee (30) and ECI (29).
The rest of the field included Toombs County (27), Lowndes (21.5), Windsor Forest (14), Johnson-Savannah (12), Effingham County (7), Glynn Academy (7), Brunswick (6) and Bacon County (2).
Not scoring were Islands of Savannah, McIntosh County Academy, Montgomery County, New Hampstead, Swainsboro and Wayne County.
Also wrestling for the Lady Herons were Sage Machado (140 lbs.), Cheryl Tenzca (100), Abagail Fields (125), Sarah Trusty (155) and Madyson Clark (190).
Machado finished one spot from a Sectional berth placing fifth with a 2-2 record. She won her opening match by pin (3:00) before losing a 6-3 decision in the semifinals. Her next match ended with a 16-1 technical fall setback in the consolation bracket. Machado pinned (57 sec.) her opponent in the fifthplace match.
Tenzca also finished 2-2 alternating wins and losses. She opened with a pin (1:11) followed by a pin (1:15) defeat. After being awarded a forfeit, Tenzca lost by pin (1:18).
Fields posted a 1-2 mark. She lost via pin (2:51) in her first match and bounced back with a pin (1:59) in the consolation bracket. She then dropped a pin (1:33) decision.
Trusty went 2-2 alternating wins and losses. After opening with a 13-10 decision, Trusty lost a pin (54 sec.) fall. She followed with a pin (4:25) win before suffering 18-2 technical fall setback.
Clark finished 0-2 forfeiting her first match and losing by pin (30 sec.) in her second.
