Pierce County High School’s tennis teams closed out the regular season with a sweep of Ware County.

The Lady Bears posted a 4-1 victory in the road finale with the Bears rolling 5-0 last Wednesday, March 30.

The fifth-seed Bears (9-6) opened up the Region 1-AAA tournament a day later beating fourth-seed Dodge County 4-0 in Eastman to advance to the semifinals, which will be held Thursday, April 14, at the Bacon Park Tennis Complex in Savannah.

The second-seed Lady Bears will host seventh-seed Tattnall County in a first round pairing Tuesday, April 12. The winner advances on to the semifinals in Savannah.

Lady Bears 4 - Ware County 1

The Lady Bears rolled through singles action winning in straight sets and split in doubles action in handling Class AAAAA Ware County.

Liza Hurst blanked Haley Cannon 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Meagan Wright posted a 6-1, 6-3 win against Jayme Russell at No. 2 while Deanna Jones notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Morgan Porter at No. 3.

In doubles action, the Lady Gators’ No. 1 tandem of Erica Anderson and Kiersten Moye captured a three-set victory over Serena Strickland and Haley Theis winning 1-6, 6-2, 10-4. Pierce’s Regan Sikes and Sadie Marfil posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nilyeah Godwin and Annabeth Hatfield at No. 2.

Bears 5 - Ware County 0

PCHS secured the win in singles action with two of the three matches going to a third set 10-point tie-breaker.

Jake Herrin notched a 6-3, 6-4 win over Matthew Bagley at No. 1. Mason Bennett rallied from a set down to outlast Bailey Tatum 1-6, 6-2, 11-9 at No. 2. Jacob Sauls held off

Avery Johnson winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Eric Smith and Dalton Fernandez rolled past Gabion Hardy and Brock Anderson 6-1, 6-1 with the No. 2 duo of Allen McIntosh and Rhett Peeples posting a 6-4, 6-0 win over Maddox Hall and Ladue Raulerson.

Bears 4 - Dodge County 0

The Bears posted straight set wins to beat Dodge County and advance the region’s “Final Four” tourney.

Herrin did not finish his match against Dallas Hardin at No. 1. Sauls downed Brock Woodard 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Bennett beat Nathan Newman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Smith and Fernandez outslugged Dwight Inman and Wyatt Hargrove in posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory. McIntosh and Williams posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over C.J Kemp and Christian Grauberger at No. 2.
