Clovis Simmons

Clovis Mattox Simmons was recently named the 2020 South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.

 

Pierce County native Clovis Mattox Simmons has been named the 2020 South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA) Hall of Fame.

Simmons has been the girls and boys tennis coach at Clinton High School in Clinton, SC for 30 years.

Her girls teams have a record of 435-110, while the boys teams are 390-104, including the 2000 state championship.

The girls teams have been to the state finals seven times in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2005. The boys teams have been to the state finals six times in 1999, 2000, 2007, 2008, 2018, 2019.

Simmons was named region coach of the year 35 times, 21 for girls and 14 for boys. She was named SCACA coach of the year three times in 1996, 2000, 2018.

In 2019, Simmons was inducted into the Laurens County, SC, Sports Hall of Fame.
