Pierce County Middle School’s dominance on the links continued Monday as the Lady Bears and Bears extended their respective Southeast Georgia Middle School Athltetic Conference title runs.

The Lady Bears won their sixth consecutive title completing a perfect season with a 15-stroke win over runner-up Waycross Middle School in the eight-team field.

The Bears captured their seventh consecutive championship and 12th in 14 years with a dominating 42-shot victory over runner-up Jeff Davis Middle School in the nine-team field to finish off an unbeaten campaign.

“Awesome stuff,” said Bears head coach Corey Lesseig. “I think today we saw awesome results.”

The Lady Bears, who shot an 89 team score, were led by conference medalist Sarah Bennett, who posted a six-over-par round of 42. Kenzie Wolff’s 47 finished out the two-person team score. Lauren Shaw and Lily Varnes added rounds of 50 and 52 respectively.

Waycross Middle shot a 104 with Brantley County Midddle School finishing third posting a 110. Arthur Williams and Ware County Middle School tied for fourth with 118 team scores. Jeff Davis Middle School placed sixth with a 119, Appling County Middle School was seventh at 137 and Martha Puckett finished eighth with a 161 team score.

The Bears were even more dominate posting an eight-over-par team score. Konner Chancey blistered the course firing a career-best one-under-par round of 35 to capture conference medalist honors. Taylor Sweat carded an even-par round of 36 with Fisher Crews two shots back with a 38. Jase Batten rounded out the team score with a 43. Ian Arnold finished a shot back with a 44 and Jordan Carpenter added a 46.

“If you took our four highest scores we still win by 23 shots,” said Lesseig. “That is domination. I am losing five of those guys to the high school, so we might not see that sort of dominance for a while. I think the gap will be much tighter next year.”

Jeff Davis Middle was the closest competitor to the Bears with a 194 team score. Waycross Middle finished third with a 200. The Bulldogs were followed by Bacon Middle (210), Appling Middle (215), Brantley Middle (228), Martha Puckett (239), Arthur Williams (240) and Ware Middle. The Gators did not have a four-man squad to post a team score.

“The PCMS golf program would like to thank Karl Chancey and his grounds crew, June Bennett, the Board and membership at Lakeview Country Club,” said Lesseig. “They have created such a truly unique and kid-friendly environment to foster the growth of junior golf. The place is a blessing. Our parents are phenomenal, and we had 22 very special sponsors step forward to support our guys and the future of the program.”
