Appling County Middle School spoiled Pierce County Middle School’s home opener here Friday sweeping the Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference tennis match.
The visitors prevailed 3-2 in both matches. PCMS has a busy week with three matches on the docket. Pierece Middle traveled Tuesday, February 15 to face Ware County Middle School and go Thursday, February 17 to Brantley County Middle School. PCMS closes out the week Friday, February 18 hosting Arthur Williams.
The Lady Rams won two of the three singles matches and split the doubles action to slip past PCMS.
Pierce Middle’s lone victory in singles came at No. 1 with Mattie Lee doubling up Bristol Wright 8-4. Addie Brown fell 8-0 to Addie Towns at No. 2 with Jasmin Sergent dropping an 8-1 decision to Braelyn Shelby.
PCMS’s No. 2 doubles team of Abigail Higginson and Reagan Wright outlasted Alayna Meyers and Marlee Anderson 8-6. The No. 1 team of Ryley Thomas and Sarah Kate Echols fell 8-3 to Tana Hall and Emi Ewaldsen.
In alternation action, Whitney Godwin and the duo of Mary Mac Cochran and Maria Fazio posted 4-1 victories.
Appling Middle survived a slugfest against the Bears with the visitors taking all three singles matches and the home team winning both doubles matchups.
PCMS’s Jeb Bradley fell 9-7 at No. 1 singles to Layton Coleman with J.C. Nimmer falling 8-5 at No. 2 to Jude Harrison and Graham Weathersby dropping an 8-5 decision to Cooper Thornton at No. 3.
The Bears’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Grayson Rodgers and Aaden Carslon prevailed 8-6 over Degan Horne and Juan Pina with the No. 2 duo of Kelln Roberts and Thomas Lucas doubling up Jebb Thomas and Eli Vickers 8-4.
Pierce Middle split a pair of alternate doubles matches with Bryce Taylor and Nathaniel Gyesky winning 9-7 and the team of Christian Thorne and Colbie Coates falling 8-1.
