Pierce County Middle School’s softball team split during action over the course of the opening two weeks of the season.
The Lady Bears (2-2) opened the year with a 21-0 no-hit victory Tuesday, August 18 against McIntosh County Academy Middle School. PCMS fell 4-3 two days later in its home opener to visiting Martha Puckett Middle School.
Pierce Middle began the second week of action with a 16-1 triumph Tuesday, August 24 over Long County Middle School in Ludowici. The Lady Bears were blanked 9-0 Thursday afternoon at home by Appling County Middle School.
PCMS traveled Monday, August 31 to Jesup to face Arthur Williams. The Lady Bears close out the week Thursday, September 3 hosting Bacon County Middle School at 4:30 p.m.

Consecutive eight-run innings followed a five-run first as Pierce Middle rolled to the easy win.
Taylor Tomlinson (2 IP, 5 K, 2 BB, 2 HBP) and Bella Delaney (1 IP, 3 K, 0 BB) combined on the three-inning no-hitter.
The Lady Bears collected 11 hits, drew seven walks, had a batter hit and took advantage of five errors by MCA.
Allie Cravey (triple, four RBIs, three stolen bases), Kayla Bryant (triple, four RBIs, four stolen bases) and Kaylee Figueroa (two RBI, stolen base) led the charge at the plate with two hits each.
Gracie Corbitt (triple, three RBIs, two stolen bases), Alyssa Crump, Olivia Bennett (stolen base), Carley Sloan and Claire Murray (stolen base) each collected a hit.

Martha Puckett broke a 2-all tie with a run in the third inning and added an insurance run in the seventh in holding off the Lady Bears.
The Lady Yellow Jackets scored twice in the top of the first against Tomlinson (7 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 K 2 BB). PCMS came right back to tie the score in the bottom of the inning.
Delaney (1-for-3, stolen base) drew a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on an groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Crump (stolen base) walked, stole second and scored on the same play tying the score at 2-all.
Martha Puckett took the lead for good in the top of the third with a two-out, run-scoring single. The Lady Yellow Jackets added a run in the seventh on a one-out single for a 4-2 lead.
PCMS fought back after two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the inning. Figuera (1-for-2) kept the inning alive with an infield hit and was lifted for pinch-runner Alayna Bell.
Delaney beat out a second straight infield hit. After both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, Corbitt (two stolen bases) walked loading the bases. A second wild pitch plated Bell before a strikeout ended the game.

Long Middle 1
The Lady Bears scored 14 runs in their first two at bats in easily beating Long Middle in three innings.
Pierce Middle scored five runs in the first inning and put the game away with a nine-run outburst in the second. The Lady Bears plated two final runs in the third.
Six different batters had one hit apiece for PCMS and four were credited with two RBI apiece. Delaney (two RBI, stolen base), Crump (RBI), Figueroa (RBI, stole base), Carley Sloan (RBI), Tomlinson (triple, two RBI) and Olivia Bennett (double, two RBI) recorded the hits.
Cravey had two runs batted in without a hit. Corbitt led the team with four stolen bases.
Tomlinson (2 IP, 4 K, 0 BB) and Delaney (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 1 BB) combined to limit the Wildkittens to one hit.

A first-inning run proved more than enough to help the Lady Rams beat PCMS in five innings.
Appling Middle added two runs in the third and plated six runs in the fourth to break the game open.
Pierce Middle managed just two hits with Corbitt (two stole bases) and Bennett (stolen base) having one each.
Tomlinson (3 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 4 K, 4 BB, 3 WP, 1 HBP) and Delaney (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 2 BB) toed the rubber for the Lady Bears.
