The Pierce County Lady Bears split four matches last week that included their participation in the Camden County Invitational tournament.
PCHS opened the week with a 5-0 win over visiting Vidalia last Monday. During the two-day invitational, the Lady Bears lost 4-1 to Camden County, blanked Wayne County 5-0 and fell 3-2 to Coffee High.
“The tournament was a great stepping stone for the girls and it gave us the opportunity to play tougher competition,” said head coach Kathy Bradley. “The matches were a true test for some of the girls and now we can get back on the court and work on our weaknesses and sharpen our strengths.”

Pierce hardly broke a sweat against the Lady Indians losing just five games in winning each match in straight sets.
Liza Hurst blanked Jammie Riddles 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Meagan Wright was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Logan Manning at No. 2, and Deanna Jones breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nancy McKenzie at No. 3.
PCHS”s No. 1 doubles team of Serena Strickland and Haley Theis rolled past Rena McKenzie and Claire Combs 6-1, 6-0 while the No. 2 team of Regan Sikes and Sadie Marfil beat Tyler Calloway and Mary Claire Herrin 6-1, 6-2.
Camden County 4, Lady Bears 1
The Lady Bears lost two matches in three-set 10-point tie-breakers and another with an injury.
Hurst posted the lone win at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Breann Sweat. Wright fell 5-7, 6-4, 8-10 at No. 2 to Allie Tucker. Jones had to forfeit with an ankle injury.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Strickland and Theis fell in three sets to Callaway Cook and Lucy Wright 6-2, 1-6, 10-12 with Sikes and Marfil losing 6-3, 6-4 to Allison Dempsey and Meagan Fitzgerald at No. 2.

PCHS swept through the singles competition to secure the win against the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Hurst blanked Kelli Poppell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Wright was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Madison Moxley at No. 2, and Jones beat Alexis Scorborough 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
Strickland and Theis teamed up for a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mia Popkin and Sophia Valencia in No. 1 doubles action. Sikes and Marfil outlasted Morgan Courson and Sky Carpenter 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.
Coffee High 3, Lady Bears 2
Down 2-1 after singles play, the Lady Trojans swept the doubles action to get the win.
Hurst continued to roll knocking off Sophia Winters 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 with Wright posting a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sarah McCullar at No. 2.
Jones lost in three sets to Kaden Walker 1-6, 6-2, 2-10 at No. 3 singles. Strickland and Theis fell 6-3, 6-4 to Caris Ruis and Heidi Spikes 3-6, 4-6 at No. 1 doubles while Sikes and Marfill dropped a tough 7-5, 5-7, 7-10 decision to Meagan Greene and Ansley Ellis.
