The Lady Bears softball team opened the season with four wins and one loss over the last week.
Lady Bears 8, Berrien 1
The Lady Bears played Berrien County last Monday, Aug. 15 at the Pierce County Recreation Department and won 8-1. Games are being held at the rec. dept. while improvements are being made to the Lady Bears’ field at the high school.
Kadence Godwin got the win in the circle going seven innings, with a no-hitter.
Natalie Sullivan led the offense going 4-for-4, followed by Kylie Allen going 3-for-4.
As a team the Lady Bears had 13 hits.
Vidalia 10, Lady Bears 0
The Lady Bears played Vidalia Thursday, Aug. 18 and lost 10-0.
Lauren Edgar started in the circle and went six innings, giving up six hits and only three earned runs.
Watermelon Invitational
Tournament
The team traveled to Cordele, for the Watermelon Invitational Tournament this past weekend.
Lady Bears 13, Bainbridge 0
Friday’s game saw a 13-0 win against Bainbridge High School.
Godwin threw six innings of shutout ball. She gave up only four hits, one base on balls (BB), and recorded four strikeouts (K).
Sullivan and Allen led the offense with three hits each.
As a team, the Lady Bears had 16 hits and no errors in the field.
Lady Bears 10, Thomas Co. 4
Saturday morning the Lady Bears played Thomas County Central and won 10-4.
Edgar got the win again, going seven innings giving up one earned run, one BB and striking out six players.
Sullivan once again led the offense with two hits.
Jenny Braddy, Rebecca Deloach, Bella Delaney and Rylee Carden also had hits in the contest.
Lady Bears 12,
East Laurens 3
Following that game, the Lady Bears finished the day playing East Laurens and won easily 12-3.
Freshman Carley Sloan got her first varsity win pitching. She went five innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts and no walks.
The offense was led by Deloach who hit a homerun and Olivia Bennett who had two hits.
Edgar, Sloan, Carden, Rachel Cason and Alyssa Crump also contributed with a hit.
“I am very proud of this group of girls! We had to battle through some things this past weekend, and they showed a lot of mental toughness and focus to still get the job done,” said Head Coach Tyler Rogers.
Upcoming games include two at home this week, both at the Pierce County Rec Department.
The team played against Brantley (Tuesday, Aug. 23, after The Times’ deadline) with junior varsity at 4 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. The team will play tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 25 against Appling. Game will start at 4 p.m. for junior varsity and 6 p.m. for varsity.
