The Pierce County High School Lady Bears’ soccer team head into the homestretch of the season ranked eighth in the Class AAA poll.
PCHS is 15-1-1 on the season averaging just over six goals a game. The team is lead by sisters Madison and Mary Courtney Puryear, who have combined for 44 goals. Lauren Lee is the team’s leader and has 10 goals and 18 assists. Marisa Ramirez, Laine Bennett and Bennett Strickland are also a part of the dangerous offense of attack of the Lady Bears, according to head coach Alvin Thrift.
The Lady Bears have posted six 10-0 victories on the season. Defensively, PCHS has recorded 13 shutouts. The lone loss was a 2-0 setback against Class AAAAAA Tift County. Islands and Long County netted just one goal each.
“The reason behind the few goals scored against us is because of our strong back line lead by Mariah Aspinwall and Gracie Bennett,” stated Thrift. “Brittney Mayhe and Allie also help anchor the back line with Ashlee Hunt in between the post as goalie. Its been a great season so far we just hope to continue the dominance as we head closer to the region tournament.”
PCHS will host Class AAAA Wayne County in the home finale Friday night beginning at 5 p.m. Pierce will close out the regular season at Savannah Arts Academy.
The Bears are currently 6-6-1 on the season.
