A two-run homer in the bottom of the second provided the eventual game-winning run helping Jeff Davis to its first win of the season.

The Lady Yellow Jackets pushed across a first inning run over against Kadence Godwin (2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 3 BB, 1 WP), the first of three pitchers used by PCHS.

Pierce County was unable to capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the first stranding two runners. Makayla Pitts (2-for-4) blooped a leadoff single with Natalie Herrin drawing a walk. Following a double play, Kylie Allen walked before the third out was recorded.

Back-to-back one-out walks set up the Lady Yellow Jackets’ first run. After a wild pitch moved the runners up, Jeff Davis scored on a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Yellow Jackets padded their lead in the second. A four-pitch leadoff walk was followed by a 13-pitch at bat to the seventh-place batter ending with a two-run homer for the Lady Jackets’ final runs of the game and a 3-0 advantage.

PCHS got on the board in the top of the third on a two-out, run-scoring double by Rebecca Deloach (1-for-3). Pitts reached on a one-out bunt single and scored from first on Deloach’s extra base hit.

Kaylee Cravey (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 4 BB) followed Godwin with three scoreless innings. She pitched into and out of trouble in the third and fifth innings stranding two runners in each frame. Jeff Davis left a runner on base in the fourth.

After leaving a runner at third in the fourth, the Lady Bears pulled to within 3-2 with a run in the sixth.

Deloach reached on a dropped third strike to start the inning. A one-out single by Madison Pickett (2-for-3) was followed by a walk to Reagan Larson loading the bases. Natalee Griffin’s fielder’s choice groundout pushed home Deloach for the only run.

Herrin (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) worked out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game close.

The Lady Bears went down in order in the top of the seventh on three fly ball outs.

Jeff Davis plated four runs over the first two innings and then had to hang on for the one-run decision in the first game.

Two singles, a double and an error allowed the Lady Yellow Jackets to score twice in their first at bat against Lauren Edgar (6 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 WP).

Two singles and two errors in the second inning helped Jeff Davis double its margin to 4-0.

PCHS took advantage of  consecutive Lady Yellow Jacket errors in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 4-1. Emma Tyrone opened the frame reaching on an error and scored when Autumn Smith’s ensuing grounder was thrown away.

The Lady Bears closed the deficit to 4-3 with a two-run sixth. Larson drew a one-out walk ahead with Sarah Davis (1-for-4) reaching when her grounder was misplayed. Tivona Myles (1-for-1) singled loading the bases. Edgar followed with a two-run single pulling PCHS to within 4-3.

After Jeff Davis scored a run in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out single, PCHS came right back in the top of the seventh with an answer and had the tying run in scoring position when the final out was recorded.

LizAnn Hughes (1-for-4) started the rally with a one-out single and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Anslee Roberson. Larson’s two-out grounder to third was booted putting runners on the corners. Davis followed lining a run-scoring single driving home Hughes with the final run.
