Bears win three times on the courts 3-16-16

The Pierce County Bears recorded three tennis wins last week, including a pair of Region 1-AAA victories.

PCHS held off Wayne County in a non-region match posting a 3-2 victory over the Class AAAA Yellow Jackets. The Bears blanked region memebers Tattnall County and Southeast Bulloch to complete the perfect week.

“We came out with three great wins,” said head coach Millie Walker. “We have to keep our focus and continue to work and improve each practice and match.”

Pierce traveled Tuesday to Dodge County and will host Appling County Thursday in region action.

Bears 3 - Wayne County 2

PCHS dropped two of the three matches that went to a third set after posting straight set wins in two of the three singles matches.

Jake Herrin notched a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Michael Holland and Mason Bennett recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jose Prince at No. 2. Jacob Sauls lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-10 to Bowne Riddles at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Eric Smith and Rhett Peeples secured the victory beating S. Fu and T.J. Mockler  6-3, 4-6, 10-5. The No. 2 team of Caleb Williams and Allen McIntosh dropped a 6-4, 5-7, 9-11 slugfest to A. Howard and D. Daniels.

Bears 5 - Tattnall County 0

Pierce had a little easier time in beating the Warriors in straight set matches.

Sauls posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Drev Patel at No. 1, Bennett recorded a 6-1, 6-1 decision over J.D. Shuman at No. 2, and McIntosh rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over R. Gomez at No. 3.

The No. 1 doubles tandem of Peeples and Smith beat J. Waters and J. Vasquez 6-1, 6-1 while Williams and Dalton Fernandez teamed up at No. 2 and notched a 6-0, 6-0 decision over D. Newman and J. Odum.

Bears 5 - Southeast Bulloch 0

The Bears picked up two wins via forfeits and swept the other three matches in straight sets.

Sauls downed C. Groover 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and Bennett was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Barhon Carter at No. 2. PCHS won by forfeit at No. 3 singles.

The doubles team of Peeples and Smith recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over J. Cromley and J. Baker at No. 1 with the No. 2 team winning via forfeit.
