The Pierce County Bears split in Region 1-AAA tennis action beating Toombs County and falling to Islands.

PCHS beat the Bulldogs 5-0 winning three of the matches via forfeits during last Tuesday’s match. The Bears dropped a tough 3-2 decision against Islands Thursday afternoon.

Pierce hosted Wayne County Monday and Tattnall County Tuesday. They wrap up a busy week traveling to Southeast Bulloch Thursday.

Bears 5, Toombs County 0

PCHS secured the match before taking the court with three forfeit wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Dalton Fernandez recorded a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Tivean Ashley at No. 1 and the top singles team of Eric Smith and Keanu Miles blanked Alfonso Ortiz and Isaish Wright 6-0, 6-0.

Islands 3, Bears 2

The Sharks’ sweep of the singles competition, two in three sets, won the match against Pierce County.

Jake Herrin fell in three sets losing 4-6, 7-5, 3-10 (10-point tie-breaker) at No. 1 singles. Fernandez dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 2 with Mason Bennett falling 2-6, 6-1, 10-12 at No. 3.

Jacob Sauls and Smith teamed up for a 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles with Caleb Williams and Allen McIntosh teaming up for a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2.
