I have never been much on watching the political processes in our nation’s capitol. In the past it was mostly mundane and unexciting. There has always been and will always be those in Washington who do not agree on certain issues, but usually those individuals or groups will give arguments, agree to disagree and move on.
However, after watching my first ever entire State of the Union address last week – I have watched several in part, but none in its entirety – and witnessing the process of impeachment through its beginning and conclusion, I now realize those days of adulting in Washington are gone.
One of my favorite movie quotes belongs to Thumper the Rabbit: “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” For those in Washington I would amend it to, “if you can’t say or do anything resembling the actions of an adult, resign.”
I know we are never going to agree on everything, but one thing many of us should be able to agree on is that nothing is currently getting done for the betterment of the United States and its citizens. There are several issues which need to be addressed by our national representatives, but all they seem to accomplish is trying to make each other look bad – at that they are successful.
I hope voters are paying close attention and will use their right to vote in the upcoming elections. It’s the only way anything will change.
Just in case some representatives are waiting for someone to ask politely ... can you just get on with it, please?
