Wilma Jean Townsend Popwell, 75, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday night, March 14, 2021, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born August 12, 1945 in Meridian, MS, she was a daughter of the late Roy Alvin Townsend and Verna Mae Hodgins Shock. She moved with her family as a young girl to Sylvester and had lived in Callahan, FL and Hortense for many years before moving to Blackshear in 2019. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kelly Popwell; her sisters, Pauline Reed and Patricia Coker and two brothers, Roy Alvin Townsend and William Edward Townsend.
Survivors include her husband, Horace “Mike” Popwell, Blackshear; three children, Keith Popwell, Blackshear, Lisa Hain (husband James), Orlando, FL, and Benjamin Popwell (wife Rebecca), Warner Robins; two grandchildren, Kayla Popwell Aldridge (husband Ben), Patterson and Matthew Popwell, Warner Robins; three brothers, Robert Terry Townsend, Ernest Wayne Townsend and Harvey C. Townsend, all of Mississippi and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization is by cremation.
