Walter A. Myles Jr., 68, of Douglas, formerly of Pierce County, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019, after an extended illness.
He attended the various school systems and later was a 1969 graduate of the Blackshear High School. He worked with several construction and logging companies throughout his career.
At an early age, he joined Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Blackshear, where he served on the usher board. He later moved his membership to Mt. Ebell Freewill Baptist Church in Ambrose, where he served faithfully in several capacities until his health began to fail.
His smile and his love will never be forgotten, for the Lord is our Shepherd and we shall not want.
In a time like this, we need the Lord to comfort us, and lead us as we continue without our loved one.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Professor Walter A. Sr. and Missionary Earnestine Lewis Myles; grandparents Joe and Ardella Myles, and Willie and the Rev. Carnie Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Josephine Taylor Myles, Douglas; two children, Angela Myles, Blackshear and Erica Myles, Waycross; four step-children, Sherry Taylor of Atlanta, the Rev. Christopher (Kesha) Taylor, Greta Taylor and Willene Holloman, all of Douglas; five sisters, Dorothy Stanley, Tifton, Elder Joyce Moore and Elder Jacqueline Wallace, both of Blackshear, Roberta Sholston (Larry), Waycross and Missionary Ardrelle Myles Sutton (Herman), Douglas; three brothers Bishop Frank Myles, Blackshear, Joseph Myles, Jacksonville, FL and Willie Myles, Snellville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph (Dorothy) Taylor, Nathaniel Taylor, Pastor Chester (Joann) Taylor, all of Douglas, the Rev. Willie (Janice) Taylor, Jacksonville, NC, Johnnie Mae (Hosea) Jones, Swainsboro and Carol Jordan, Camden, NJ; uncles and aunts, Bishop Elroy Lewis, Chapel Hill, NC, Jorenna (Allen) Carroll, Williard, NC, Carnie (Franklin) Gillespie, Bladenboro, NC, Vernette Lewis, Columbus OH, Johnia Faye Carter, Greensboro, NC, 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held from noon-6 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the funeral home, 400 East Cherry Street, Douglas.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, from the Mt. Ebell Free Will Baptist Church in Ambrose with Pastor Chester Taylor officiating. The Rev. Tommie Wells, pastor, delivered the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the New Salem Cemetery in Ambrose.
