Vielee Martin Hester, 67, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday morning, March 22, 2020, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, following a sudden illness.

Born in Hoboken, March 9, 1953, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. She had worked as a cook/waitress for Tastee-Freez as well as Odean’s for many years prior to working for Stewart Candy in security. She loved to read and enjoyed social media, especially Facebook where she would share a Bible verse every morning. She was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Christ Church.

She was a daughter of the late Madison Markson “Duck” and Ocie Viola Melton Martin. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, one an infant and Viola Aldridge and six brothers, the Rev. Hilton Martin, Marshall Martin, Marvin Martin, Dennis Martin, Davis Martin and Melvin Martin.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Jimmy Floyd Hester, Blackshear; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Brian Estep, Stockbridge, Brandy and Mark Brown, Zebulon and Joann and Darrell Blackmon, Meansville; a sister, Helen Logan, Waycross; three brothers, the Rev. Jerry (Erica) Martin, Wayne (Sharon) Martin and Ray Martin, all of Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Marie Martin, Blackshear and Marilyn Martin, Spartanburg, SC; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

There will be no public visitation.

Due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), the family will have a private graveside service Thursday, March 26, at the Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Pierce County Floral inside Wall’s IGA so Mr. Hester can keep flowers on her grave throughout the year.
