Thelma Delane Strickland Kirkland

Thelma Delane Strickland Kirkland, 92, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday evening, November 16, 2021 at Harborview – Pierce County Nursing Home.

Born in Hickox October 5, 1929, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life. She had worked for the former Woolco department store for many years prior to working for Wal-Mart as a cashier and eventually retiring as a greeter. She was an awesome cook and loved reading the newspaper. She was a member of the Blackshear Church of God and over the years she and her late husband, Nathaniel Preston Kirkland Jr. had enjoyed singing together at church and other functions.

She was a daughter of the late Raymond and Polly Walker Strickland. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Head and all four of her brothers, John, Floyd, I. J., and Billy Strickland.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Roger Smith, Douglasville; her son and daughter-in-law, Foy and Lafain Kirkland, Blackshear; a sister, Jenetha (T.L.) Chaney, Blackshear; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Jerry) Evans, Holly (Gerry) Willits and Brandy Wynn; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will have a private visitation for immediate family only one hour prior to the service Saturday, Nov. 20.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in the Waters Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Benevolent Fund at the Blackshear Church of God, 411 W. Carter Ave., Blackshear, GA 31516.
