Sallie Mae Strickland McGarity, 77, of Fernandina Beach, FL (formerly of Blackshear), died early Monday morning, November 11, 2019, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau in Fernandina Beach, FL, following an extended illness.
Born December 2, 1941 in Blackshear, she was a daughter of the late Estees and Eva Mae Taylor Strickland. She lived most of her life in DeLand, FL and in Pierce County and was retired from Satilla Regional Medical Center where she had worked in the central supply department. She was a member of the former Victory Baptist Church (now Bethel Baptist Church) in Blackshear.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Acosta; two sisters, Norma Jean Batten and Mildred Strickland and two brothers, Tommy Strickland and Marvin Strickland.
Survivors include a daughter, Anita Acosta, Fernandina Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Benjamin Sharp, Fernandina Beach, FL and Erika Rae Boller, Oklawaha, FL; a great-grandson, Blake Theriault, Oklawaha, FL; three sisters, Ann Weaver, Gainesville, Sue Deshotel (husband Jerry, Tallahassee, FL and Kaye Buckingham (husband Scott), DeLand, FL; three brothers, Frank Strickland (wife Pat), Patterson, Joseph L. Strickland (wife Willie), DeLand, FL and Johnny Strickland (wife Carolyn), Sanford, FL and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Cardwell officiating.
Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
