Sallie Josephine “Josie” Hensley Gill, 68, passed away late Tuesday evening, December 6, 2016, at her residence, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Blackshear, March 7, 1948, she had resided and lived most of her life in Pierce County. She was a homemaker but had also been very active in local and state politics for many years. She tirelessly devoted her time during many elections and also served as campaign manager for several seeking office. She was an avid reader and a life-long learner.  She was a special mother who will be greatly missed and was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was a daughter of the late Joseph Michael and Annie Bell Smith Hensley Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, James Milton “Midge” Gill; a great grandchild, Kylie-Anne Marie Gebhart; a special mother and father, Cora Mae Crosby Gill and Riley Allen Gill; two sisters, Mary Ann Walker and Dale Counts; a brother, Phillip Aaron Hensley; a special aunt, Sally Grace Thomas Gill and a special uncle, Everette “Buddy” Lee Gill Sr.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Steve Davis, Patterson and Lisa and Paul Strayer, Jesup; four sons and daughters-in-law, James Milton “Jimmy” Jr. and Chon Gill, Green Cove Springs, FL and Gene and Rita Gill, John and Keela Gill, and Louie and Dongsoon Gill, all of Waycross; two special daughters, Diann (Mitchell) Walker, Patterson and Teresa (Joey) Godwin, Blackshear; a special son, Floyd (Mary) Gill, Patterson; two sisters, Nellie Faye Hanson and Nancy Burney, both of Brunswick; a brother, Joe Mike Hensley Jr., Valdosta; 13 grandchildren, Anthony (Mallory) Gill, Craig Davis, Renee (Charles) Corbitt, Dewayne Strayer, Astin (Joselyn) Gill, Holly (Charlie) Mitchell, Heather (Chap) Gebhart, Luke (Hali) Strayer, Casie Davis, Amber Gill, Tiger Gill, Gracie Gill and Clayton James Gill; 14 great grandchildren with three on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the funeral home. 

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will follow in the New Home Cemetery.
