Ruby Lee Johns Morgan Griffis

Ruby Lee Johns Morgan Griffis, 84, of Jesup, died Friday, June 28, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.  

A native of Brantley County, she lived most of her life in Wayne County and was a lifelong member of Jesup Church of God. She retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital as a nursery nurse and was a devoted children’s Sunday school teacher and children’s church leader for many years.  

She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Allen John “AJ” Morgan and Dennis Edwin Griffis; parents, Frederick Johns and Bessie Griffis and siblings, Virginia Spradley, Effie Mae Johns, Ida Mae Wrenn, Fred “Buddy” Johns and Earl Melton.

Survivors are a son, Danny (Maralyn) Morgan, Jesup; a daughter, Janice M. Spell, Jesup; a son-in-law, Larry Spell, Screven; step-sons, Dennis (Ruth) Griffis, Cottage Grove, MN, Jim (Jan) Griffis, Greenbrier, TN and Glen (Monika) Griffis, Alexandria, VA.; grandchildren, Dr. Larissa (Josh) Fenn, Brandy Spell, Dr. Katie (Rob) Hudgens, Elizabeth (Dexter) Brand, Shannon Harris, Brianna Drew, Russell Drew, Molly Griffis, Caroline Griffis and Alex Griffis; a special niece, Sheila (Cal) Rinehart and her children, Jakob, Kenna, Riley and Logan Rinehart; great-grandchildren, Autumn Geiger, Morgana Fenn, Holden Fenn, James Oliver Hudgens, Gabriel Harmon, Juliette Harris, Krissi Drew, Zaylee Drew and Layla Drew. 

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, from the Rinehart Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Todd and the Rev. Lee Owens officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Robert Morgan, Calvin Strickland, Josh Sikes, Cal Rinehart, Russell Drew, Jakob Rinehart and Robert Middleton. 

Honorary pallbearers will be the Jesup Church of God Adult Sunday School Class, Screven First Baptist Adult Sunday School Class and staffs of Hospice of South Georgia and Dr. Pumpelly. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, Ga. 31545.
