Ruben Lee ‘R.L.' Strickland

Ruben Lee “R.L.” Strickland, 92, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, January 20, 2020, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness.

Born October 29, 1927 in Bristol, he was a son of the late Archie and Josie Smith Strickland. He had served in the United States Army Air Corps but was retired as a millwright and welder from Champion Building Products in Waycross.  He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Maxine Whitt and Mary Nell “Sally” Strickland and a brother, Raygene “Bull” Strickland.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Naomi Byrd Strickland, Blackshear; his son and daughter-in-law, LaDale and Patricia Strickland, Blackshear; three grandsons, Brian Strickland (wife Shelly), Kingsland, Tony Strickland (wife Tiffany), Waycross and Eric Eaton (wife Lynn), Blackshear; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Strickland (wife Molly), Bristol and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. 

Interment will follow in the Bristol Cemetery.
