Robert Lee Tapley

Robert Lee Tapley gained his wings Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Baptist Medical Center, in Jacksonville FL, after a brief illness. 

He was born in Blackshear March 6, 1945 to the late Willie B. and Oza Tapley. He was a 1963 graduate of Lee Street High School. He attended Okefenokee Technical College where he was a part of the automotive repair program.He was a truck driver for the May Cohens Brothers Company located in Jacksonville, FL in the early 1970s. Years later, he relocated to Blackshear where he became employed with Gilman Paper Mill located in St. Marys until the closing of the plant. He was well known for his love of singing gospel music and was a member of the Pierce County Male Chorus.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his devoted companion, Dallas Pender; daughters, Aneshia Thomas (Bobbie), Jacksonville, FL and Yolanda Maddox (Raphel), Blackshear; son, Jason Tapley (Kim); granchildren, Jason Jr., Jatavia and Jayla Tapley, all of Jacksonville, FL,  Ravhen Cade (Alvin), Augusta and Raphel Maddox ll, Blackshear; a devoted aunt: Mary Lee Robertson, Blackshear and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service in his honor will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the Session Hill Community Center, 5112 Aurelia Street, Blackshear. From 4-5 p.m. there will be prayer by Pastor Morris Pate and a time period for brief expressions of love. The family asks that all visitors wear masks and practice social distancing protocols.  This will be a time to briefly stop in and offer the family your condolences and remember the life of Robert Tapley.
