Michael Edward ‘Mike’ Starling

Michael Edward “Mike” Starling, 70, of Blackshear, passed away suddenly Friday, October 22, 2021, at his residence.

He was born June 11, 1951, to Foy Edward Starling and Imogene Fuller Starling, who both preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Edward Starling Jr. and a brother, Ellis Starling.

He grew up in Millwood, enjoying the country life, raising prize winning show pigs, hunting, fishing and going as fast as possible in one of his many American muscle cars. He met the love of his life, Brenda, when he was 21. She was the perfect match to his humor. The loss of their first son, Michael, left its mark on them, but soon had their second son, Chris, who was there for him to the end.  After having Chris, they settled down in Pierce County. He worked for Ware State Prison for 20 years before retiring. He loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR, NFL, Atlanta Braves Baseball and college football. Later in life, he enjoyed keeping everyone updated on national news, local news and whatever the neighbors were up to.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Hersey Starling; one son, Chris Starling; his fur babies, Zoe, Scrappy and Bojangles; two brothers, Dale Starling, Brunswick, and Eddie Starling, Waycross; one sister, Brenda Nute (Charles), Munford, TN; mother-in-law, Geneva Youngblood, Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Julia Chauncy (John), Fernandina, FL, and Jackie Simmons, Blackshear; two brothers-in-law, Gary Hersey of Virginia, and Pete Hersey, Blackshear; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He never had grandchildren of his own, but had a special great-nephew, Kote Simmons. He has several nieces and nephews, greats and even great-greats. He was Uncle Mike to each and everyone, and loved them all very much.
