John Foster Jr., 79, went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, May 22, 2020, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness. 

Today we bow in humble submission to the will of God to thank him for the life of John Foster Jr.

He was born to the late John Foster Sr. and Ada Poole August 23, 1940 in Montgomery, AL.

He is remembered as the “Hilltop father” in his community. He was also a devoted family man who strongly valued friendships, discipline, hard-work, and resiliency. Some of his hobbies were gardening, playing checkers and doing cross word puzzles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie Jane Taylor, Annie Lee-Williams, Jewelry Williams Moore and Georgia McCaffrey; two brothers, Jonas Williams and Edward Foster; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Leaving to cherish his loving memories his wife, Valerie Foster, Waycross, who he met March 28, 1959; four daughters, Delphine Tillman and Ada (Robert) Best, both of Waycross, Mary (James) Foster, North Augusta, SC and Brenda (Kenneth) Jones, Blackshear; two sons, John E. Foster, Waycross and Anthony (Miriam) Foster, Atlanta; seven godchildren, “The Nelsons”, Waycross; one sister, Florence Lee, Fayetteville, NC; one brother, Walter Johnson, Waycross; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Carey, Atlanta; one sister-in-law, Anne English, Atlanta; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other special friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the funeral home, 505 Ware Street. 

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Barnar Cemetery in Waycross.
