James Robert Sullivan, 79, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday night, October 31, 2020, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.
Born January 28, 1941 in Jesup, he was a son of the late Roscoe Sullivan and Idell McCall Sullivan Thornton. He lived most of his life in Pierce County and had worked as a mechanic for John King Ford in Waycross and had been a lifelong farmer. He was well known for growing and selling vegetables.
He was a hardworking man, dedicated to providing for his family. His pride was his great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and having fish fries and social gatherings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robbie Sullivan; step-father, Leo Thornton; two brothers, Willie Sullivan and Dink Sullivan; son-in-law, David Suggs; and a niece, Rhonda Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marlene Melton Sullivan, Blackshear; daughter, Lynn Suggs (Buddy), Blackshear; daughter-in-law, Meshelle Sullivan, Blackshear; grandchildren, Mark Sullivan, Colby Sullivan (Rusty), Kyle Suggs (Micalla), Kaylee Buckins (Timmy) and Ryan Sullivan (Jessica); great grandchildren, Hadley Caviness, Sydnie Sullivan, Caden Sullivan, Braxton Sullivan, Robbie Sullivan and Easton Sullivan; sister, Pat Mansfield (Aubrey), Odum; two brothers, Carroll Sullivan (JoAnn), Screven and Ed Sullivan, Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
