James Perry Tison Sr.

James Perry Tison Sr. of Millwood, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.

He was an humble, courteous man who was known to be a true Southern gentleman. He deeply loved the Lord and his family who meant so much to him.

He was born March 11, 1943 in Millwood to the late William Perry Tison Sr. and Inez Moore Tison. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Perry Tison Jr. (Billy) and Herbert Walton Tison and his sisters, Ruby Inez Tison and Pat Tison Sylvester.

He was an active member of Millwood Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons, Music Leader, Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Building Committee.

After 30 years of service, he retired in 1999 from the State of Georgia Department of Family & Children Services where he served as a supervisor.

He graduated from Atkinson County High School and South Georgia College. He was an avid Ware County Gator Football fan who loved cheering his Gators on with his family. While he was unable to attend this year due to his illness, he always listened to the game on the radio.

He will be missed by many including his beloved wife of 59 years, Marjie Lee Tison; daughter, Renee Tison Ragan, Millwood; sons James (Perry) Tison Jr. (Kathryn), Blackshear and Bruce Tison (Susie), Waycross; son-in-law, Jimmy Ragan, Waresboro; he will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Heather Ragan Cave (Josh) and Tyler Ragan (Kala) both of Waycross, Ansley Tison Northcutt (Mark), Valdosta and James Perry "Trey" Tison III (wife Virginia), Lauralee Tison Beauregard (Matt) and Grant Tison (Kellie Rosario), all of Waycross; his great-grandchildren Tison Cave, Annaleigh Cave, Connor Ragan, Caroline Ragan, Sarah Kathryn Northcutt, Andrew Northcutt, Claire Tison and Baby Sutton Beaureguard (due in February) who all affectionately called him “Granddaddy”; his sister, Annice Tison Whitfield, Cohutta and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24 from the Millwood Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the  Bennett Cemetery in Millwood.
