James Herbert Norton, 77, of Patterson, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2019, at the Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, FL.
Born in Anniston, AL August 2, 1942, he had lived in Anniston prior to moving to Pierce County in 1988. He was a retired master brick mason. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, working in his yard, cooking, reading his Bible and shopping. For several years he baked cakes for youth auctions at Patterson Baptist Church where he was a member. He was a big Alabama fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a son of the late Herbert Norton and Hazel Mae Gill Norton.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Debra Ivey Norton, Patterson; four daughters, Renee Barber (Mike Boatright), Blackshear, Laura (Mike) Garbkus, Atlanta, Jenny Norton Moody, Miami, FL, and Claire Norton Winkler, Atlanta; a son, Jamie Norton Moody, Ogden, UT; two sisters, Permelia (Travis) Bryant and Glenda (Gordon) Fennell, all of Weaver, AL; his brother, Willard (Cindy) Norton, Pleasant Valley, AL; seven grandchildren, Megan Barber (Walt Taylor), Taylor Barber, Trey Barber (Hannah Cloud), Andy Garbkus, Caroline Garbkus, Robert Morgan and Lexi Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Lyla Kate Taylor and Caroline Brooke Taylor; a life-long friend/brother, Jerry (Annette) Robertson, Weaver, AL and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
Members of the Men’s Sunday school class at Patterson Baptist Church are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the funeral home chapel by 1:30 p.m. Monday.
