James Avery “Jamie” Morris, 40, died Saturday evening, September 4, 2021, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville, FL.
He was born in Douglas, but he lived in Atkinson County and graduated from Atkinson County High School in Pearson. He attended Waycross College and graduated from Albany State University with a bachelor’s degree. He received his master’s degree from Thomas University. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Axson.
He was currently employed by Pierce County Board of Education as a seventh grade teacher. He served as Pierce County Middle School head soccer coach for two years, middle school assistant soccer coach and middle school assistant football coach. He always enjoyed working the football concessions stand Friday nights. Last year, his 10U soccer team with the Pierce County Recreation Department finished the season undefeated.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Jamanda Marie Sikes Morris, Bristol; three children, Jayden Morris, Jenna Grace Morris and Jackson Morris; his parents, Tom and Arlene Hayes Morris, Axson; one brother, Jarred Morris (Emily), Pearson; niece, Eva Morris; nephew, J. T. Morris; parents-in-law, Julie and Joe Sikes, Blackshear; maternal grandparents, Horace and Jane Hayes, Pearson; grandparents-in-law, R. J. and Mary Bennett, Douglas; special aunt, Susan Morris, Pearson; special uncles, Tim Morris, Douglas and Tommy Carter, Bickley and numerous other family members and friends.
A viewing will be held from 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the graveside at Blackshear City Cemetery.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, from the Blackshear City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his family.
