Gregory Scott Hughes

Gregory Scott Hughes, 42, died suddenly Thursday, December 26, 2019, at Optim Medical Center in Reidsville.

 He was born May 9, 1977 in Waycross and had lived there most of his life. He had made his home in Reidsville for the past few years. He was the son of Jessie D. and Elaine B. Hughes.

He graduated from Pierce County High School in 1996 and from Okefenokee Technical Institute (now Coastal Pines Technical College) with certification in welding. He was employed by OBI in Riceboro as a forklift driver. He was an avid bass fisherman, deer hunter and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friends. He was a member of Haywood Baptist Church.

He will be remembered for his loving, joking personality.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Daniel Hughes Sr., who passed away in 2011.

Survivors include his daughters, Sierra Michelle Hughes, Brunswick and Emma Claire Hughes, Screven; his mother, Elaine B. Hughes, Palm Coast, FL; a sister, Wendy L. Hughes, St. Johns, FL; a brother, Jessie Daniel Hughes Jr. (Julie), Virginia Beach, VA; his estranged wife, Angela Smith Hughes, Odum; his aunts, Kim B. Smoak (Shawn), Waycross; Jenell Elrod (Owen), Dallas, TX; one uncle, Steve Bennett, Waycross and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019, from the Beulah Church Cemetery in Pierce County with the Rev. R.C. James of Patterson Baptist Church officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his father.

Music Funeral Home of Waycross is in charge of arrangements.
