Gordon Willis “Big Willie” “Pop” Nessmith, 79, of Blackshear, passed away early Friday morning, January 7, 2022, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House.

Born in Atlanta, September 3, 1942, he had lived in Gainesville, Florida for many years before moving to Blackshear in 1999. He was retired from North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville where he had been a lab technician supervisor. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed listening to Gospel music and cooking. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

He was the son of the late Gordon and Naomi Willis Nessmith.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Freeman Nessmith, Blackshear; two step-daughters, Amy (Joe) Aviles, Summerville, SC and Melanie (Ron) Kevr, East Charleston, SC; two step-sons, Dan (Jennifer) Strickland, Blackshear and David (Robin) Strickland, Jacksonville, FL; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, from the Blackshear Cemetery.
