Gerald Downing ‘JR’ Riggins Jr.

Gerald Downing “JR” Riggins Jr., 53, of Folkston, passed away Sunday morning, January 10, 2021, in Folkston, following a sudden illness.

Born in Jacksonville, FL May 9, 1967, he was raised in Jacksonville before moving to Waycross in the late 1980s and lived there until moving to Folkston a little over a year ago. He had worked in the roofing business for a short time prior to working with All-Safe Fire Protection and Asplundh Tree Service. For the past two years he had worked for D.M. Forestry as a log truck driver and was mighty proud of his candy apple red Peterbilt. A true outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting and working in the woods with his job. He also enjoyed cooking – especially on the grill – and loved the Florida Gators. He was a loving father and grandfather.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a son of the late Gerald Downing Riggins and Lorene Elizabeth Crawley Thompson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Lee Riggins.

Survivors include his children, Jessica (Luke) Wolfe and Jacob (Angel) Riggins, all of Blackshear; three sisters, Sherri (Ronald) Jackson, Jacksonville, FL, Victoria “Vicki” Telesky, New York, NY, and Wendy Pickett, Yulee, FL; three brothers, Jason Riggins of Jacksonville, FL, Danny (Carol) Riggins, Middleburg, FL, and Collon Telesky, Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Matthew Wolfe and Bentley Downing Riggins and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, January 15, at the Jordan Cemetery in Ware County.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, from the Jordan Cemetery in Ware County.

Due to COVID-19, social distancing guidelines and the wearing of facemasks are mandatory.
