Elden Elaine McGauley

God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, called Sis. Elden Elaine McGauley, 87, of Blackshear, home to eternal rest in the morning of Friday, June 26, 2020, at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross.  

She was born to Ruby Lee Kellam March 13, 1933 in Fort Valley. 

While in Miami, FL, she received her cosmetology license 1in 1959 and when she returned to Georgia, she worked alongside Sue Hodges and was affectionately known for her beautiful finger waves. After several years of doing hair, she began her journey at King Edward Cigar Factory until she retired in 1995. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and devoted her services as a member of Fourth Mount Olive Church, serving as head of the Missionary Department, clothing giveaway and singing in the choir. She was also a spirited volunteer at Lee Street Resource Center.

She was preceded in death by her mother Ruby Lee Kellam Pate; a brother, Lloyd Pate; a sister, Lillie Pate Moody and a son, Dale Antonio Gibson. 

She leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories with her husband, Nathaniel McGauley, Blackshear; her son, Neal (Christine) McGauley, Waycross; her daughter, Cam McGauley Johnson, St. Marys; four grandchildren, Monica McGauley, Savannah, Russell Johnson Jr., San Diego, CA, Camrus Johnson,  Vancouver, Canada and Jalen Johnson, Woodbine; three sisters, Dallas Pender, Blackshear, Margret (George) Holmes, Waycross and Maggie (Walter) Taylor, Hope Mills, NC; two brothers, Vernon Pate, Ripon, CA and the Rev. Morris (Denise) Pate, Blackshear and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. 

Visitation will be held  from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the funeral home, 505 Ware St., Blackshear.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, at Shiloh Cemetery, Moore Street, Blackshear. Words of comfort will be given by her brother, the Rev. Morris S. Pate, Pastor of Fourth Mount Olive Church.  

Those attending are asked to wear masks, observe social distancing guidelines and bring umbrellas for shade.
