Doris Lucille Feuchtenberger Merritt, 85, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday morning, July 16, 2020, at her residence, following an extended illness.

Born March 18, 1935 in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Hilda Reinhardt Feuchtenberger. She lived in Maryland until the mid-1970s when she moved to Pierce County. She had been a manager and waitress, working at Oak Plaza, Captain Joe’s and Pizza Hut. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Lanier Merritt; a granddaughter, Julissa Hall; her sister, Gloria Sewell and her mother-in-law, Lillian Merritt.

Survivors include her two daughters, Doris Williams, Blackshear and Christine Hall, Dixie Union; two grandchildren, Samuel Williams, Blackshear and Kit Hall, Waycross; three great grandchildren, Karmin Self, Phoenix Self and Ernest Self, all of Blackshear and several other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, from the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Golden officiating.

Interment will follow in the Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery in Tattnall County.
