Donald Lewis Thomas

Donald Lewis Thomas, 80, of Ooltewah, TN, lost his battle with cancer Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

He was a 1958 graduate of Blackshear High School in Blackshear. He was a Staff Sergeant and Veteran of the United States Air Force. Known by the nickname “Shorty”, he retired as postmaster for the United States Government in Chattanooga, TN. He worked 16 years in maintenance for the Honors Golf Course in Ooltewah, TN. 

He was a member of the Savannah United Methodist Church in Ooltewah, TN. He was a Georgia Bulldog fan, loved golfing, fishing and watching old westerns. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Goodner Thomas; son, David Randal Thomas, parents Joseph Estill Thomas and Maude Conner Thomas; twin brother Ronald Thomas, brothers, Jack Thomas, Lanis Thomas and Larry Thomas and a sister, Clovis Clark. 

Survivors include a brother, JE Thomas Jr., Blackshear and several nieces, nephews, a brother-in-law and several sisters-in-law. 

He wanted to thank Standifer Place Assisted Living, Chattanooga Hospice and Martin Boyd for their loving care. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 from the Wesleyann Cemetery in Apison, TN, with Pastor Jennifer Lee officiating.
