Daniel Thomas, 83, of Patterson, passed away Friday afternoon, July 17, 2020, at his residence.
Born in Patterson November 4, 1936, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. He was the owner/operator of Thomas Logging, Inc. He had also farmed and raised cows some over the years. He had been a hard-working, easy going man all of his life. He loved the Lord and was of the Baptist faith, loved all babies and children, and loved animals. He never missed an opportunity to speak to someone and shake their hand and his biggest goal in life was just to help people.
He was a son of the late Willie Henry and Julia Henderson Thomas. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Caleb Horne and James Horne; a sister, Ethel Guest and five brothers, David Thomas, William Thomas, Buddy Thomas, John Thomas and Billy Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Doris Johnson Thomas, Patterson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Joe Stanfield, Viera, FL, and Beth and Robert Chancey and Danielle and Dale Douberly, all of Patterson; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Delean Thomas, Patterson; four sisters, Janie Aspinwall, Blythe Island and Laura Walker, Lillian Taylor and Susie (Sam) Cason (Sam was like a son), all of Patterson; a brother, Pete Thomas, Waycross; a sister-in-law, Betty Roberson, Offerman; a special brother-in-law, Cecil (Cheryl) Johnson, Offerman; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a special niece, Paula Collins, Vidalia; Lewis Jenkins, Patterson (who was also like a son); several other nieces and nephews; special friends, Nick Koulianos, Daniel Washington (late wife, Betty), Dr. Don Waters, Dwayne Chancey, Ralph and Nadean Lairsey, Isabelle Hunter, Tammy Cummings, John James and Rodney James and several other relatives and friends.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family instead invites people to ride by the residence at 6634 Claude Road, Patterson, and honk their horn or greet the family from their vehicles.
A private graveside service will be held Monday, July 20, from the Offerman Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Home Health Care as well as Hospice Satilla for the excellent care they provided to him over the past several months.
