Alice Jane Madison Taylor, 79, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021. The Lord said, “Come my child, your work here is done”. She’s at peace now.
She was born May 23, 1941, in Pearson, to Charles and Louise Madison. After high school, she married her love, Joe Taylor Jr. October 5, 1961. Shortly thereafter they headed north and started a new life in Newark, New Jersey.
They started expanding their family in 1964 when they had their first and only son, Nicholas and the family was complete in 1967 when their daughter, Yvette was born.
Alice had a fierce love for her family. She spent many years as a homemaker and occasionally working as a teacher’s aide just to be around her children. While in New Jersey, she was an active member of St. Peter’s Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served on the Usher Board. In 1991, they relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she worked at Maidenform as a warehouse associate.
In 2011, after Joe’s passing, she moved to Atlanta, where she learned to shoot pool and enjoyed playing cards with other seniors in her community.
She was always a lady – a “girly-girl’ with the sweetest demeanor ever. Everyone she met just loved her, but she also did not have a problem letting you know what was right or wrong. She loved music – singing and dancing. She was a role model and the epitome of a good woman. Any woman should be proud to follow in her footsteps. She loved to praise God. Her favorite saying, and best piece of advice was “Give it to God”. She was beautiful - she was fearfully and wonderfully made.
Her memory will be cherished by her son, Nicholas Taylor (Valarie); her daughter, Yvette Taylor Perry; her grandchildren: Nicholas Taylor Jr., Sevyn Chaniel, Jeremy Chaniel, Ciara Chaniel, and SFC Lillian Jones, U.S. Army; she will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters, Willie B. Edwards and Betty Battle both of Georgia, Monroe Madison of South Carolina, Linda Lane and Rosa Hargrave, both of New Jersey and Velma Floyd of Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Taylor Jr; her brothers, Charlie Madison Jr. (Junior) and Johnny Madison and sisters, Ida White and Bessie Lee Madison.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Friday, January 15, at the funeral home, 505 Ware Street.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, at the Bethel Temple Holiness Church, 209 Burroughs Street, Blackshear.
