Two Pierce County youths have been arrested after threatening to shoot a student at Ware County High School last Tuesday.
Nathan Blaine Thornton, 17, of Patterson, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, October 29, after he allegedly threatened to shoot a male student at the high school in Waycross.
Thornton made the threat while attending classes at Coastal Pines Continuing Education Center at Eagle Station in Patterson.
Witnesses there reported the threat to authorities.
Later that evening, a 14-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody for threatening on social media to shoot the same male student at Ware County High School.
Under Georgia law, the name of the juvenile cannot be released.
“Law enforcement takes these threats of school violence very seriously and we will deal with them in the same manner,” said Sheriff Ramsey Bennett.
Thornton and the juvenile reportedly had a feud with the Ware County student involving a relationship with a female student.
Thornton and the juvenile have been charged with making terroristic threats and actions.
Thornton was denied bond and remains in the Pierce County Jail.
The male juvenile has been bound over to the regional youth detention center for additional judicial proceedings and also remains in custody.
Sheriff Bennett said students at Pierce County High School were never in any danger.
“No threats were ever made against anyone at Pierce County High School,” he said.
