Pierce County Schools will be closed through Friday, April 24.
Governor Brian Kemp issued an executive order Thursday, March 26, extending the statewide public school closure from Tuesday, March 31, to the new date in April.
Schools may re-open Monday, April 27.
The governor initially ordered all public schools closed Wednesday, March 18, as the state continues to take steps to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Pierce County Schools have been closed since Tuesday, March 17.
All state mandated testing and attendance requirements have been waived by the Georgia Department of Education.
Pierce County Schools are currently providing meal deliveries and teachers are reaching out with learning opportunities for their students. (See related stories.)
The University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia will remain closed for in-person instruction through the rest of the semester.
Colleges, universities and technical colleges have transitioned to online learning for the remainder of spring semester.
