The Pierce County Board of Commissioners will begin holding hearings on a proposed millage rate hike tomorrow, Thursday, August 22.
Residents are invited to attend the hearings. The first hearing will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Southeast Georgia Regional Agriculture Center (SEGARAC), 705 College Avenue, Blackshear.
Additional public hearings will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, and 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, also at the SEGARAC Building. Plans call for the millage rate to be set at a called meeting Thursday, Aug. 29.
County commissioners are considering raising the millage rate three-quarters of a mill to address road maintenance and public safety needs.
Commissioners have tentatively agreed to raise the millage rate from the current level of 15.35 mills to 16 mills.
