Exchange Club votes to cancel longtime festival due to COVID-19
The Pecan Festival of Georgia, hosted annually by the Blackshear Exchange Club, has been canceled for 2020.
Initially set for Saturday, October 24, club board members voted earlier this month to cancel the festival due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) concerns.
Event sponsors and some vendors had reportedly expressed concern over the ability to maintain social distancing among the crowds in attendance and some live entertainment acts – including Pierce County High School’s Sound of Silver – would not have been able to socially distance on the city park’s stage for their performances.
The Exchange Club and Blackshear Rotary Club are discussing plans to co-host a pair of glow in the dark golf tournaments later this year in lieu of the Pecan Festival.
