Locals flocked downtown Monday evening, Dec. 2, for Blackshear’s “Festival of Trees” holiday parade. The weather was chilly and folks danced along to the Christmas music to keep warm.

Johnnie Anderson, longtime volunteer firefighter, served as parade grand marshal while Santa and Mrs. Claus brought up the rear of the parade riding in a classic red pickup truck.

The parade featured 55 entries, complete with 16 brightly decorated floats, trucks covered in Christmas lights and walking groups.

First place prize for best decorated float went to Jewels Booster Club of Momentum Athletics, Robbie Boatright for sheriff took second place and First Baptist Church came in third. Satilla Marine received honorable mention.

Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright reports the parade went smoothly with no safety issues.
