An investigation is underway into the death of a 12-year-old boy in the Sandy Bottom Community Thursday afternoon.
Caden Lee Musgrove, 12, was pronounced dead at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross following the incident.
“The death is under investigation and the body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Pooler,” said Sheriff Ramsey Bennett. “It appears to be just a terrible, tragic accident, but we won’t know until the investigation is complete.”
Bennett declined additional comment citing the ongoing investigation.
Pierce County 911 received the emergency call at 3:03 p.m. Thursday to a residence in the Apple Road area of the Sandy Bottom Community, reporting a juvenile who was not breathing.
The case is under investigation by Pierce County Sheriff’s Investigators.
Musgrove is remembered this week as a young man who excelled at both academics and athletics.
“He will forever be remembered for his infectious personality and smile that was a blessing to everyone he came in contact with,” according to his family and friends.
He was a seventh grade student at Ware County Middle School, where he was a member of the National Junior Honor Society. He was recently awarded the Seventh Grade District winner of the Young Georgia Author’s Writing Contest. He was a member of the football, basketball, wrestling and baseball teams.
He loved sports, but he really loved to fish. He often documented his fishing adventures on YouTube.
Funeral services for Musgrove were held at 4 p.m. Monday in Memorial Stadium in Waycross.
