High-speed chase

A high-speed chase through Appling and Pierce Counties Motel ended in a crash near Oak Plaza Motel Saturday afternoon when Georgia State Patrol Trooper Donald Ray Bonner of the Helena post performed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) maneuver to end the pursuit. According to a report by the Waycross post of the Georgia State Patrol, Bernard Gary McQueen of Jacksonville, FL, was allegedly fleeing from the Georgia State Patrol. Reports indicated the chase began in Baxley and proceeded south down Georgia Highway 15 to Blackshear. McQueen was driving a 2013 Nissan Armada south on Georgia 15 and Bonner used his Dodge Charger pursuit vehicle to perform the PIT maneuver. McQueen’s Armada left the roadway, striking the curb and a “buckle up for safety” sign and then overturned coming to rest on its wheels facing southwest. McQueen was quickly taken into custody. He was not injured in the crash. Details about the reason for the pursuit were not on the report, but The Times has learned the case may be drug related. The Georgia State Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
