Former BES Principal Dee Treadwell retires

Lanna Denison is the new  principal at Blackshear Elementary School after Dee Treadwell announced her retirement last week.
Treadwell submitted her resignation for retirement at the regular work session of the Pierce County Board of Education last Thursday morning. The announcement came following a 23 minute closed session to discuss personnel.
Treadwell had been on bereavement leave since the beginning of the school year. Her husband, Blake, passed away suddenly in July.
“We love and appreciate Dee and all she has done at Blackshear Elementary,” said Superintendent Dara Bennett in announcing Treadwell’s retirement.
Treadwell served with Pierce County Schools for 30 years, including the last two as principal at Blackshear Elementary. She had previously been assistant principal there and had been an instructional coach at both Blackshear Elementary and Midway Elementary.
Denison had been serving as interim principal at Blackshear Elementary since school started last month.
Bennett announced the board has decided to remove the interim label and name Denison as the “official principal” at Blackshear Elementary.
Denison had served the past three years as the school system’s director of federal programs. She has been in administration with the local school system for more than a decade. She was an instructional coach and assistant principal at the middle school and was also a teacher there for nine years prior to moving into administration. She is a 1992 honor graduate of Pierce County High School.
Denison holds a bachelor of science, master of education and education specialist degrees, all from Valdosta State.
She has two children, Maggie and Jad.
