Blackshear Elementary will have two new assistant principals in the new school year.
The school board voted to accept the resignation of Assistant Principal Michelle Strickland at its regular work session last Tuesday morning. The session was moved up two days to avoid conflicting with the Georgia School Board Association’s annual meeting.
Strickland’s resignation had been anticipated after her husband, Jason Strickland, left Pierce County to take the head coaching position in Ware County in April.
The vote came following a one hour and 13 minute closed session to discuss personnel. In other personnel moves at the meeting, the board also voted to hire Angela Tanner as payroll coordinator at the central office.
The assistant principal’s vacancy is currently being advertised.
Amanda Lee “Mandy” Williams was hired last month to fill the first vacancy as assistant principal at Blackshear Elementary.
Williams filled the slot left open when Rachel Tyre resigned to take a job in Wayne County.
It is the third such change at Blackshear Elementary in as many years.
